I have heard views on the Lord of the Rings movies that range from great to horrible. There are some that call it all one big Masterpiece. In Kevin Smith's movie, "Clerks 2" one character describes the Lord of the Rings movies as "people walking to a volcano." Of course stuff happens between them walking but the premise is that the characters must get to a volcano to destroy a ring. I personally have seen them all and while I enjoyed the experience I would never want to watch them again. At most they are a 7 out of 10 on my rating scale. I say rent it just so you can see them. Everyone should see them at least once. Alright. How long is it?

Oh geez, your looking at half a day if you plan on watching them all in a row. If you want to watch them one at a time, it's probably like two to three hours each.

I looked up the run time for the first film, and it says that it is 148 minutes, which is two hours and twenty eight minutes. So yeah, you are looking at two and a half for the first film, so I wouldn't be surprised if in total you were looking at eight-nine hours. That's a ballpark estimate though, so don't hold me to it.

Inception is non-stop-make-your-blood-race-and-your-mind-explode action. LotR is a lot more "slow" is how I would describe it. You can look forward to great action scenes but to get to them you have to sit through story that sometimes can seem rehashed. I would break down like this: 20% mundane chit chat/rehashing of conversations from earlier movies, 40% great action sequences, and 40% interesting storyline. If you can live with the bad 20% then you can get through it all.
The problem is that that 20% after you have seen it all starts to seem like 80% of the movie, which makes you not want to rewatch the films. I say see the movie for the good 80% which is literally stunningly beautiful scenes, amazingly choreographed fight scenes, and really innovative and imaginative storyline. If you don't like the movies, then you don't have to see them ever again. You can do like a lot of people and bash the movies until you are blue in the face.
Of those people that have seen all three movies, they break down into three groups. Group 1 loved the movies and will become fans and keep recommending them to everyone. Group 2 which I am part of, will tell you that there are some really great parts, and some really stupid parts. This group will tell you to be wary of the film, but not to go into it hating it from the start. Group 3 will be the people who will tell you it's utter crap and try to convince you not to watch it.
I have seen and loved some pretty bad movies, but this movie isn't anywhere near as bad as they were, or as bad as people will make it out to be. Remember, the series won like two Best Picture awards so it's not going to be crap.
