I don't know how many members have seen the original "The Crow", but if you are like me then you enjoyed it (I enjoyed it so much it's my favorite movie of all times). It was full of angst, but a beautiful angst. It showed the dark side of society conveyed through the beliefs of a good and virtuous man, whose girlfriend and himself are murdered.
The man was returned from the dead a year later to avenge his girlfriend and his' murders. Even though he becomes a violent vigilante, he still shows his virtuous side by helping a young girl who has a drug addict mother and lives her life on the streets of crime. This man may still be the gentle rocker that he was in his previous life, but deep down he knows he is back to set the wrong, right.
Becoming the epitome of "Judge, Jury, and Executioner", the almost invincible Eric Draven dishes out punishment against those who took part in the murders, by using their own vices against them. In a time when the criminals are running the streets, this lone figure sets out to take down the powerful crime boss. By films end, all is right, and Mr. Draven can finally rest in peace. That wasn't to be the case though for the "The Crow" franchise.
The film itself didn't spark the cult fascination that has followed it for years. Instead it was the fact that a young actor previously known only as "the Son of Bruce Lee", finally made a name for himself in the world of acting. His name was Brandon Lee. Brandon gave such a charismatic performance that vibrates the emotions of viewers. One moment he can be a compassionate friend and the next a dark avenger who cleanses the streets.
Brandon Lee unfortunately died during the filming and wasn't able to make any sequels. His death however helped fuel the fan frenzy that it has received. For most people, the last person who this happened to that can come to mind is Heath Ledger. Just like Ledger, Lee's passing brought an extra interest in the film. This lead to movie studios attempting to make a series of sequels and even a television show based on the original film. Unfortunately though, none could convey the beauty and power of the first film.
Now though comes word of a remake. Sixteen years later, a movie studio is attempting to recapture the essence of the original film. At first it seemed like a failed quest, but recently a screenwriter was hired to rewrite the script. This screenwriter's vision is of a more violent avenger. Someone who has no compassion for the sinners who harmed him. No, this film may not hold the same beauty as the original but thankfully this remake isn't trying to be the true sequel to Alex Proyas' masterpiece.
They know that they can never be the original The Crow, so why not make a new Crow. They won't tarnish the image of the original, but create a second separate image. In the first, we find a compassionate avenger, but with this remake, I hope we find an unflinching nightmare. I want to see a dark and gritty film where Eric Draven proceeds to inflict not only physical pain but emotional, and mental pain.

For those who are fans of the original The Crow film, how do you feel about the remake? Please keep in mind that the remake will not be a sequel and will in fact be a retelling of the original film's story. Should it be made, and if so, should they keep with the original story? (I assume some things about the original story will be changed, but the heart of the story should be the same)
